New Era College is proud to be an official sponsor for the ongoing Engineering Week organized by the Engineers Registration Board Botswana which kicked off yesterday at Fairgrounds and will conclude on the 4th of March which is world Engineering day!!
The event, which brings together engineers from various industries, is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the contributions of these professionals and highlight their importance in society.
The annual forum which is now in its fourth year brings together over 300 Engineering professionals and consumers of engineering services from across the region with presenters coming from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana to name a few.
When officially opening the forum, the Honorable Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Eric Molale highlighted the importance that Engineers play in the public infrastructure in Botswana.
The objective of the Engineering Forum is to provide a platform for sharing experiences, lessons, good practices and to raise issues that will stimulate dialogue on the role that engineering has to play in the engineering value chain. This year’s Forum is held under the theme: Creative Engineering Value Chain – From Rhetoric to Action.
New Era College was involved in the first panel discussion of the week under the topic of ,”Academia and Industry Collaboration for Solution Focused Work.”
The College was represented by their Vice President of Administration and Finance Mr Daruosh Ghodrati who highlighted the efforts the College has taken to bring themselves closer to the industry in areas such as research, mentorships, partnerships and frequent dialogue in order to produce industry ready graduates.
“As a college, we are committed to equipping our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become successful engineers in the workplace. One of the avenues we use to reach this goal is through our soon to be launched apprenticeship program, where students will be tied to an industry professional that will mentor them directly as a new graduate. As a pioneer in STEM education we remain committed to promoting a practical and innovative learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century. We do this through our research and innovation lab where we allow and encourage our students to tinker with their ideas to create their own unique innovations that will solve pressing social challenges."
As a sponsor of the Engineering Week, we hope to inspire future engineers and be part of the important discourse that will shape the Engineering landscape in Botswana and beyond.
Day two of the conference will see our very own Dean of the faculty of Engineering Prof Cheddi Kiravu, make a presentation on “Engineering and the Sustainable Development Goals, Mainstreaming the sociological dimension.
We encourage you all to support Engineering week through following the ERB channels and join us in celebrating the contribution of engineers in our society.
We encourage everyone to participate in the Engineering Week and celebrate the contributions of engineers in our society. As a college, we remain committed to promoting STEM education and producing competent engineers who will contribute to the betterment of society
