Requirements

  • Applicants should have credits at BGCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, Sciences and a PASS in English Language.
  • To be admitted into a Degree programme at YEAR 1, applicants must have completed BGCSE or equivalent and must be between 17 and 21 years of age.

Faculty of Commerce and Industry

New Era College’s Faculty of Commerce and Industry hosts four Schools. School of Business Innovation (SBI), School of Leisure and Travel (SLT), School of Accounting and Financial Management (SAFM) and School of Broadcasting Communication (SBC). The Faculty’s mandate is to provide education, training, and award qualifications over a wide range of disciplines. It is dedicated to consistently providing high quality education by rendering effective service delivery, quality programmes and courses, and high levels of learning, living, health and sporting experiences for its students. Our innovative, robust specialized training and qualifications provide learners with competencies in Commerce, Business Management, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Education and Accounting. The Faculty of Commerce programmes also prepare learners for industry, and post-graduate programmes.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have a pass in five relevant subjects at BGCSE or equivalent passed with a minimum of grade C including English Language and a Mathematics / Science subject. 
  • Applicants with a diploma or equivalent, and/or are in-service can be admitted in the first semester of year two of the qualification.  (Ts & Cs)
  • Any relevant vocational qualification at NCQF Levels 5 or 6 in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies, Human Resource Management and Marketing Management may render the candidate eligible for exemptions or credit transfer in accordance with applicable policies.

Faculty of Societal and Vocational Education

The Faculty of Societal and Vocational Education provides quality programmes in Special and Inclusive education to all students with special needs in line with international standards and in accordance to demands of the industry, applying innovative methods and modern technologies. The Faculty of Societal and Vocational Education ensures that all students have the opportunity to realize their potential and become valued members of society. The mandate of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education is to provide schools in Botswana with the much-needed skilled teachers, who will be able to educate learners with special needs in the ordinary classroom settings.

Faculty of Applied Science And Technology

The Faculty of Applied Science and Technology was created to focus on the application of science and technology in society. In line with its mandate, the faculty will infuse an interdisciplinary approach to science and technology in resolving complex issues such as sustainable development and climate change. Towards that end, the faculty is home to the School of Interdisciplinary Science and a number of strongly allied schools: Geographical Studies, Computer Science as well as Natural Resources Capital and Minerals. These will offer competencies ranging from Geographical information systems, Information technology, Cyber security, the Internet of Things (IoT), STEM and Mineral beneficiation.

Requirements

  • Level 8 Direct Entry Route: Applicants having only the BGCSE or its equivalent should have at least a credit in Mathematics, Science and in English Language.
  • Level 7 Direct Entry Route: Applicants having only the BGCSE or its equivalent should have at least a credit in Mathematics, a Pass in Science and English Language or be holders of the Level 6 Diploma.
  • Indirect Entry Route: Applicants with qualifications beyond the BGCSE, for instance Diplomas and Higher Diplomas or their equivalents, will be admitted into year II and year III of their Programmes respectively.
  • Alternative Entrance Routes: Applicants not falling within the above categories will have their entry qualifications evaluated and recommended on a case-by-case basis taking into account the recognition of their prior learning.
  • Direct Entry Route: BGCSE and or its equivalent with a pass in Mathematics or in Science and a Pass in English or a Level 5 Certificate.
  • NCC Holders: NCC holders are eligible to enrol into the second year of the Diploma Programmes

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING AND INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Candidates may be considered for admission into any of the programmes above without BGCSE or equivalent provided they have successfully completed the NCC/BTEP programme or equivalents, and/or have relevant work experience. Candidates may have to enrol in core modules (Mathematics and English) or enter the programme at certificate level if they wish to enrol.

Non Degree Programmes

Faculty of Engineering (Non-Degreee)

Requirements

  • Applicants must have preferably a credit in Mathematics and Sciences and a PASS in English at BGCSE level or equivalent. 
  • Candidates who have other post senior secondary school qualifications but do not hold Certificates or Diploma may need to demonstrate eligibility before they can enroll into a programme of study. 
  • Certificate - Applicants over the age of 25 years may be considered for admission if they have at least a CREDIT in Mathematics and Sciences and at least a Pass in English at BGCSE or equivalent. 
  • Diploma - To be considered for admission into the Diploma level, a candidate must normally be a holder of a Certificate or equivalent.
  • Advanced Diploma - To be considered for admission into the Advanced Diploma level, a candidate must normally be a holder of a Diploma or equivalent. Candidates without senior secondary school qualifications may be considered for admission under Mature Entry if they have recognised certificates or diplomas as stated above.

Part-Time Programme

New Era College of Arts, Science & Technology offers part-time courses for learners who require flexibility and longer periods of time to complete a Degree, Diploma or Certificate level programme. Our part-time programmes are specially tailored for learners who want to continue working while studying, or are unable to commit to a full-time programme. Across all programmes, classes and lectures typically involve committing hours during the evenings and weekends.

ADMISSION WITH CREDIT TRANSFER

A candidate may be considered for admission with relevant CREDIT pertaining to the awarded level. To be considered for admission with CREDIT, a candidate may apply for exemption from the successfully completed modules or courses from previous programmes of study. Evidence of successful completion of relevant modules courses or their equivalents at the same level of the programme must be provided by the candidate. If the evidence is deemed satisfactory, the candidate shall be informed in writing specifying the modules from which he/she will be exempt and the modules he/she must do in order to complete the programme level applied for. A candidate can only be exempt from no more than 50% of modules/credits required. If the evidence is deemed unsatisfactory, the candidate will be informed accordingly. The candidate may apply to be considered without credit. The general entry requirements shall apply.

ORPHAN AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN

Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) students may be granted admission into the Bachelor of Engineering Programme provided they have credit in Mathematics and two (2) sciences and at least a Pass in English. For Non- Engineering applicants a Pass in English and Non- Science related subjects would be acceptable
